Time To Pay Restaurant Workers More

Today on my America Weekend show, I talked with Saru Jayaraman, author of "Behind The Kitchen Door," an expose on the poor working conditions and low wages the overwhelming majority of restaurant employees have to deal with. I asked her how long it's been since workers in that industry got a raise, how it's unfair to make them rely on a subsidy from customers (in the form of tips) for their income, and what the evidence shows regarding the impact of a minimum wage increase on the cost of dining out. She also explained how most food service employees, who don't have health insurance, are going to work sick and breathing on my food and yours.
