You've heard of helicopter parents, in which a kid is never allowed to be independent because a mother and/or father is always hovering and managing their lives. Now that trend has moved to the baseball field, where those parents have morphed into helicopter coaches. On my America Weekend show, I talked with Dan Gould, Director of Michigan State University's Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, about how these coaches are ruining the experience of Little League for many kids by yelling instructions at them during games (often conflicting, when more than one helicopter coach is present) and making winning more important than having fun.
